For George Clooney’s „The Monuments Men“ I was hired as head of department sculptor by Studio Babelsberg. As this movie required to build a huge cave in very short time, I needed to develope a quicker and more efficent technique for producing hundreds of squaremeters of rock surface than carving it out of styrofoam. Finally I took several big casts of the walls at a mine where we were also shooting on location. Copied into 2,5 x 1,25 m silicon moulds, we were able to produce rock panels in polyurethan foam, which were mounted with metal spikes on a wooden frame. That way, we were able to finish this huge set in just four weeks.
